ARM USA's
Freedom Reporter
May, 2003
Greetings Folks! Hope this finds you and your families well!
First off, I know that the best way to make sure a message is read is to keep it short and sweet. But there are just too many things going on right now to do that. I think everything in this issue of ARM USA's Freedom Reporter is very important! (I'll save my jokes for later issues.)
EMAILED NEWSLETTERS
I've been trying to perfect the way our newsletters get emailed. I understand
that the links to UN-subscribe which I have included in previous emails do
not always work. So we've subscribed to List Builder and hope it will work
out ok. I'm still working out the bugs, so bear with us. To make matters worse,
our internet host is going through upgrades and/or business changes. Our main
page is not currently functional and for some reason I can't modify anything.
The only page I can direct you to (above) is a little outdated. So add that
frustration to laws and otherBS we have to put up with - not a good way to
start out the week!
So, with that said - if you DO NOT WISH TO RECEIVE FUTURE ISSUES OF ARM USA's Freedom Reporter, then just REPLY to this email and type REMOVE in the subject and hit SEND. We will confirm receipt of your removal email - so if you DO NOT RECEIVE confirmation of your removal within 2 days, or if the message is sent back to you as UNDELIVERABLE, please try again, or try sending it directly to jogordon@msn.com . (You may have to copy and paste.) Sorry it can't be a simple one-click process, but we are working on it! We appreciate your understanding.
BILLS PENDING - FROM http://NRAMembersCouncils.com/legs.shtml
AB 50 - 50 CALIBER BAN
.50 Caliber Rifle Ban - would ban the sale/possession of rifles that are chambered
for the .50 BMG cartridge and the sale/possession of .50BMG cartridges. Passed
Assembly Public Safety Committee on 4/29/03. AB 50 will be next heard in the
Assembly Appropriations Committee. There is still time to affect whether or
not this legislation is passed. (Thanks to Ronnie Barrett of Barret Firearms
and Bill Ritchie of EDM Arms for their strong testimony against AB 50!)
AB 992 - 10-CENT BULLET TAX
Ammo Tax - Amended to direct revenues to a "Victim Reimbursement Fund".
AB 992 will be next heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

Committee phone/fax/email information can be found at: http://www.nramemberscouncils.com/legs/asmapprops.shtml
. Also, you can send a single email to each of the Assembly Appropriations
Committee Members by using the special "ONE CLICK" email address
that you can find at: http://www.nramemberscouncils.com/legs.shtml . By sending
one email to the special "ONE CLICK" address, each one of the Assembly
Appropriations Committee Members will receive a copy of your message (so it
is probably a good idea to address your messages with: Dear Assembly Member,).
2 other bills to be heard in Senate Appropriations Committee
SB489 (Scott) - Semi-Auto Handgun bill - would have required that all semiautomatic
handguns, manufactured after a specific date - that are imported and sold in
California, be equipped with a loaded chamber indicator and a magazine disconnect
mechanism. Although it passed the Senate Public Safety committee on 5/6/03,
it was massively amended. SB 489 will be next heard in the Senate Appropriations
Committee.
SB 601 (Perata) - .50 Caliber Handgun Ban - would ban sale/possession of .50
caliber handguns. This bill is aimed specifically at the new S&W .500 Magnum
cartridge but would also ban others. Passed the Senate Public Safety Committee
on 5/6/03. SB 601 will be next heard in the Senate Appropriations Committee.
CONTACT MEMBERS OF THE SENATE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE AND TELL THEM TO VOTE
AGAINST THESE BILLS AS THEY SERVE NO PURPOSE OTHER THAN RESTRICTING FIREARM
OWNERSHIP AND THEY WILL HAVE NO POSITIVE EFFECT ON PUBLIC SAFETY.

RENEWAL OF THE FEDERAL ASSAULT WEAPON BAN - from Citizens of America
News item on Republican House speaker Denny Hastert, Monday the 19th:
--------------
Hastert remained non-committal regarding whether or not he would support a
renewal of the ban on normal-capacity magazines and certain semi-automatic
rifles.
"
I need to have some discussions with the president and leadership before I
make that decision," he said Thursday. "I am reserving my personal
opinion."
--------------
THANKS, Denny -- GUN OWNERS put Bush and a lot of other Republicans in office,
and this is how we get repaid.
Make you mad? You CAN do something about it. READ ON
PHONE CALLS are a very important means for politicians to keep their finger
on our pulse. They figure if you'll take a few minutes and spend a
couple of bucks for long-distance calls you're SERIOUS about your message.
No, there's no way to measure the influence of calls, but Congressmen continually
tell us this is how they know what issues to support or not to support.
We tend to believe them. Remember, their goal is NOT to protect the Constitution
(except perhaps Ron Paul of Texas) but to get RE-ELECTED. Listening to their
most active and vocal constituents is how they do it.
HERE YOU GO -- JUST DO IT! YOU'LL FEEL BETTER AFTERWARD.
START WITH
Speaker of the House, Republican Dennis Hastert - (202) 225-2976
THEN CALL
House Majority Leader, Republican Tom DeLay - 202-225-5951
THEN CALL
Senate Majority Leader, Republican Bill Frist - (202) 224-3344
THEN CALL
The White House - (202) 456-1111
HESITATING? HERE'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU CALL:
They say "Hello, Rep X's office."
Tell them you want to leave a comment.
They'll say "Sure, go ahead."
Just something like "If the
Clinton gun and magazine ban is renewed, I
will not support/vote for (Bush, Republican Party, etc)." No need to get
emotional or speak volumes.
The phone handler on the other end will mark your comment on their
issues list and say "Thank you," and you're done.
It's easy.
DO IT SO YOUR KIDS CAN ENJOY THE RIGHTS YOU DID.
THANKS FOR TAKING ON A SHARE OF THIS WORK.
